A Computed Tomography (CT) scan utilizes an x-ray tube and a computer to generate cross-sectional images of structures within the brain and body. It is used to detect abnormalities such as blood clots, tumors or infectious process such as sinusitis, appendicitis or diverticulitis. Contrast agents may be administered orally and/or intravenously to better visualize organs or structures within the body. IMA uses a spiral or helical scanner to allow for faster and more accurate CT scans.
